What porcelain veneers actually are

A porcelain veneer is a custom-made layer of dental ceramic, typically lithium-disilicate (E-max) or feldspathic porcelain, bonded to the visible front of a tooth. Because the ceramic is translucent like natural enamel, light passes through it the same way it does a real tooth — which is why a well-made veneer disappears into your smile rather than sitting on top of it. We use veneers to close gaps, even out worn or chipped edges, brighten teeth that will not respond to whitening, and correct mild crowding without orthodontics.

Porcelain vs composite veneers

Both have a place, and the right choice depends on your teeth and your goals.

• Porcelain / E-max veneers are lab-crafted, exceptionally lifelike and long-lasting (often 10–15 years). They resist staining and hold their polish, which is why they are the standard for a full smile makeover.
• Composite veneers are sculpted directly onto the tooth in a single visit using tooth-coloured resin. They cost less and need little or no tooth reduction, but they stain more easily and have a shorter lifespan.

The minimal-prep philosophy

Older veneer techniques removed a significant amount of healthy enamel. Modern minimal-prep porcelain veneers remove only a fraction of a millimetre — and in carefully selected cases, none at all. Preserving your natural tooth structure matters because enamel does not grow back, so we treat it as precious.
